Annamalai University started dealing in Distance education in the year 1979, and holds the recognition by the University Grants Commission. It offers around 500 courses through distance mode and gets maximum number of admissions in the country. It has a very strong and sound base of infrastructure, human resources in teaching and non-teaching areas and the instructional set up in academics and computer related areas. This university was the first to start the post graduate degree programs in India, in Applied Psychology, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Bioinformatics and Law through Distance Education mode. Besides the pure academic courses, the university has also a large share in terms of vocational and professional programs. The most important feature of ANNAMALAI University is the ‘A’ grade award by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
Acharya Nagarjuna University, Andhra Pardesh
Acharya Nagarjuna University initiated its functioning in the year 1976. The University is an autonomous State entity and is funded by the University Grants Commission and Government of Andhra Pradesh. It has the recognition by University Grants Commission (UGC), Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Ministry of HRD, and Government of India. The University offers admission to prospective learners via Centre for Distance Education or through the Study Centre of their choice. The University has dedicated its wide base of resources to extend the quality education to masses at the reasonable charges. It is the instigator in beginning the post graduate science courses, LLM courses as well as other bachelor and master level programs in professional acreages. It has also been accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) twice i.e. in year 2003 and 2010.
School of Open Learning, University of Delhi, Delhi
The University of Delhi, a Public Central University, was established in year 1922 and it was in the year 1962, the School of Open learning formerly known as The School of Correspondence Courses and Continuing Education, founded under the University of Delhi. It is funded by the Government of India. It is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Association of Indian Universities (AIU). It offers under-graduate as well as post graduate degree courses in domains of Arts/Humanities and Commerce with the aim of promoting higher education and vocational skills. In addition to North and South campus, with the aim to provide educational access to maximum number of students, it is about to start its study centre in the Eastern and the Western part of the Delhi.
Indira Gandhi National Open University, Delhi
The Indira Gandhi National Open University was formed in year 1985 under the Act of Parliament, with the aim of generating accessible conditions for improving status of higher education in every region of India. Since IGNOU is the largest university in the world, it is run by the Central Government of India. The Delhi based IGNOU, has its headquarters in five different zones of India. The University provides more than 200 courses at certificate, diploma, degree and doctoral level. IGNOU has the target of providing the education access to under privileged masses as well as the working professionals who are not able to grow & explore due to limited opportunities of training and development. In addition to traditional modes of content delivery, it has initiated the modern and electronic media also to ensure maximum convenience to the understudies.
Kurukshetra University, Haryana
The Kurukshetra University was set up in 1956 as a unitary residential University with the motto to upgrade the level of higher education in almost all areas say science, technology, humanities, arts and sports etc. The distance education division of this university was initiated in 1976, devoted to the target of education accessibility to the majority of modern people. It offers programs at undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral levels. The Kurukshetra University is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Distance Education Council (DEC), New Delhi and is the member of Association of Commonwealth Universities. It has also been accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with Grade ‘A’ in year 2014.
B R Ambedlar Open University, Hyderabad
BRAOU is purely dedicated towards achieving the belief of Dr. Ambedkar “Education For Everyone”. The University formerly known as Andhra Pradesh Open University, started functioning in August 1982 through an Act of Andhra Pradesh State Legislature and is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). On priority it initiates to generate higher education access to working professionals, socially disadvantaged, women and other adults from remote areas. The University is incomparable in terms of learning material, the mode of content delivery, evaluation and the range of programs. The learners can avail the benefits of learning at self-pace, open scheduling, guidance from experts, networking benefits, updated content and others.
Karnataka State Open University, Mysore
KSOU was set up in 1996 as per the law of Karnataka State Open University Act of 1992. It has the target to provide the learning opportunities to the masses, who are not able to access formal education of state as well as of the whole country. The KSOU, recognized by the UGC and DEC, is the regular member of Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi, as well as the permanent member of Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), London, United Kingdom and Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU), Beijing, China, since 1999. The KSOU offers the diversified bunch of courses to the learners starting from certificate up till the post-graduation level and has the set standards to prove the quality performance.
